"Resources, procedures and institutional coordination"
Communication at LIP is a strategic function serving its scientific, institutional, and social mission. It is also a shared responsibility.
To ensure institutional coherence, effective dissemination, and proper recognition of the scientific work developed, it is essential that everyone is familiar with the available resources and existing coordination processes.
This article brings together key information on visual identity, communication channels, and dissemination procedures.
The objective is simple: to make everyone’s work easier and to strengthen LIP’s institutional presence.
LIP Visual Identity
In January 2026, LIP’s visual identity was updated.
This was not a rebranding, but rather a modernization of the visual system. The core elements of the identity were maintained, while technical and structural aspects were adjusted to ensure:
- greater legibility and consistency;
- better adaptation to digital platforms;
- uniform application in institutional and scientific contexts;
- visual framing of the 40th anniversary celebrations.
The visual identity is a collective tool. Its strength depends on consistent use by everyone.
Where to Find the Resources
The materials are organized in two spaces:
Website (public)
This space is intended for external consultation and standardized institutional use.
Includes:
- Official logo (institutional versions);
- Brand guidelines manual;
- Brochures and promotional materials;
- Public annual report.
Intranet (internal use)
Includes:
- Editable logo versions (different formats);
- Presentation templates (PPT);
- Document templates (A4, letterhead);
- Email signatures;
- Zoom and device backgrounds;
- Participation certificates;
- Funding logos;
- 40th anniversary graphic identity;
- Graphic elements and media assets.
Some templates are still being finalized and will be made available progressively.
Good Practices in Using the Identity
To ensure institutional coherence:
- Always use official files available on the intranet;
- Do not recreate the logo;
- Do not alter proportions, colors, or typography;
- Do not apply shadows, effects, or distortions;
- Avoid using outdated versions saved locally;
In technical or three-dimensional applications (e.g., engraving, machining, physical supports), solutions must be validated in advance with the Communication team, and the monochromatic version adapted to the context is generally used.
In case of doubt, contact Communication.
We can (and should) be creative in our content. However, the identity itself must remain stable.
Event Registration and Promotion
All events organized or co-organized by LIP must be registered through the form available on the intranet.
Timely registration allows:
- inclusion in the website agenda;
- promotion on social media;
- production of graphic materials;
- potential preparation of a news item or institutional coverage.
The form has been updated to identify the type of support requested (promotion, design, follow-up, etc.), facilitating internal organization.
The earlier ECO is involved, the more effective the promotion will be.
External Communication and Press Releases
Proactive dissemination of scientific results and initiatives is strongly encouraged.
However, to ensure accuracy, coherence, and maximum media impact, any contact with media outlets or external press offices must be coordinated in advance with the Communication team.
This coordination allows:
- adapting technical language to the target audience;
- strategically framing the message;
- avoiding duplication or inconsistencies;
- ensuring broader and coordinated dissemination.
Whenever there are doubts about how best to communicate an initiative, result, or event, prior contact is recommended (comunicacao@lip.pt).
Communication does not replace the scientific voice - it amplifies it.
Coordination and Alignment
Institutional communication coordination is ensured within the ECO - Education, Communication & Outreach group in articulation with the Board and LIP’s regional nodes.
ECO functions as a transversal support and coordination structure, ensuring strategic alignment, institutional coherence, and follow-up of various initiatives.
The goal is not to create rigid rules, but to promote a common language, a consistent identity, and an integrated vision of LIP’s activities.
In a context of multiple events, international collaborations, and outreach actions, prior coordination is essential to maintain consistency and strengthen LIP’s positioning.
Strategic Framework
These guidelines are part of the communication strategy defined for the 2025–2030 period, which establishes priorities, target audiences, and lines of action aligned with LIP’s scientific and institutional mission.
Effective communication depends on everyone’s collaboration.
A strong identity and coordinated communication make LIP more recognizable, more professional, and more influential - in Portugal and internationally.
ECO is available to support any initiative.
