LIP celebrates 39 years with gatherings across all three nodes

"LIP marked its 39th anniversary with barbecues, cake and music in Lisbon, Coimbra and Minho. "

Last Friday, May 9, LIP celebrated its 39th anniversary with social gatherings at its three locations: Lisbon, Coimbra and Minho. The occasion also served as a symbolic kick-off to the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of LIP’s foundation and Portugal’s accession to CERN.

In Lisbon, the celebration took place over lunch with a barbecue, music and a relaxed atmosphere in the kitchen area on the first floor and the adjacent outdoor space. The event also marked the inauguration of a new common room, designed to promote informal interaction among colleagues and now open to the entire LIP community.

At the Minho and Coimbra nodes, the anniversary was also celebrated with shared lunches, birthday cake and good spirits.

This 39th anniversary celebration was just the first step toward a very special year ahead. In 2026, LIP will celebrate four decades of research, innovation and collaboration, with initiatives taking place throughout the year.
