Portugal Discusses the European Strategy for Particle Physics

Lígia Breda Melo | 21 January, 2025

"Meeting at LIP fostered debate and collaboration among scientists to prepare Portugal's contribution to the revision of the European Strategy for Particle Physics. "

Yesterday, January 20, 2025, LIP hosted a meeting focused on preparing Portugal's contribution to the revision of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP). This process, approved by the CERN Council, is essential for defining scientific priorities and reinforcing Europe’s leadership in particle physics.

The event brought together theoretical and experimental physicists, fostering rich discussions on topics such as the future of colliders, neutrino physics, gravitational waves, and new acceleration technologies. The program featured presentations by Portuguese researchers and debates on the most impactful areas for the national community.

The ESPP revision, set to conclude in the summer of 2026, is a unique opportunity to align national perspectives with the European vision, strengthen international collaboration, and enhance Portugal’s presence in the global particle physics landscape.

The active participation of the entire scientific community is crucial. Contributions can be submitted until March 31, 2025, further solidifying Portugal's position in shaping the future of particle physics.
